My New Literary Venture

Is a rhyming children's book I based on a conversation with my 4-year-old son about why he's not afraid of various monsters. It didn't take long to write and in the worst-case scenario I will provide stick figure Microsoft Paint illustrations and print it up myself.

I have no idea how to get a kid's book published — judging from my track record with traditional publishing, and given the ratio of completed manuscripts and proposals to actual publications, I barely know how to get a regular book published — but am starting to try to learn.

If you are okay with self-publishing (as you apparently are based on your recent Kindle title), then: (1) hire someone on Fiverr or eLance to do your cover and illustrations, (2) have friends proofread the final product, and (3) publish on Kindle and Nook. It is really that simple.

I appreciate the suggestions. I don't know how much mileage kid books get in ebook forms though.

Yeah, that's a valid point -- you could self-publish in print (Createspace.com or Lulu.com), but you lose the impulse buying that Kindle has, and would have to do some marketing.

If I can't get it published I'll just settle for making copies for myself and family members. Probably wouldn't much care about selling it. Although thee would be nothing to lose by doing to that would I did to Stormin' Mormon.
